I've been back in WAR for a couple months now and for the most part I'm really enjoying it. Although I think I'm Destro on Iron Rock (?). My Order guys are over on Badlands. I think I've also got some Destro on Volkmar.

Magus used to be my main, but they're kinda sad to play in RvR. I'm having much more fun with my Squig for a Destro class. Engineer is my fave class for Order.

I think my biggest gripe is that you still only get ten character slots, but there are 12 classes to choose from - grrr.

In WAR people find ways to stand out, usually via humorous names and eventually last names. One of my favorites is a Marauder in my guild named, Kruelhand Job.

Yesterday I came across a DoK who had died her armor snot green and some shade of bright yellow. Then there's a mostly Australian guild whose members all dye their armor a light shade of gray.

But it's true, there aren't many ways to customize and stand out in WAR and most other games. Unfortunately super heroes don't resonate for me. I didn't grow up reading comic books. Maybe Fallen Earth has or will have more options than fantasy MMOs.

I played the special weekend event scenario in WAR, the Ironclad all day Saturday. I hated it on the test server. But once I really got to know the ins and outs of the map I had a good time.

I made a new Necromancer/Mesmer in Guild Wars Prophecies. I enjoy the PvE in Guild Wars, with the beautiful environment, sense of exploration, and good stories. I like the combat system, too. One of these days I'm going to have to give random arenas another shot.

The Magus is still one of the weakest classes. But they have had their damage buffed somewhat. Their role as pressure damage (aoe damage but few kills) is unchanged. I don't recommend the class.

If you want to get back into WAR, let me know. It's still my primary game. I recommend you read the latest Producer's letter from Carrie on the Herald. One thing they're working on for a future patch is developing the economy and auction house more.

There are still some grossly imbalanced career classes. But it's not as bad as it once was. The game performs better than it did just a few months ago. But server-side lag is still there, particularly during large battles.

I still play because its the funnest pvp system I've found. And the goblins make me laugh. And I like making fun of order players. (I do have a baby engineer on Iron Rock though.)

You're overlooking one very imporant thing about the Allods situation. The outrage didn't crescendo until it was revealed that a patch was coming to make it virtually impossible to play effectively without buying some very expensive things.

And the producers did not promise to change the prices. They said they'd be looking into the pricing. That's an important distinction.

I think lots of the outrage happened because a large portion of the audience for Allods comes from westerners who are accustomed to WoW's business model. Other cash shop games that do not appeal to WoW players charge similarly high prices. But they haven't been exposed to similar outrage because their audiences are accustomed to the cash shop business model.

DDO is a great example of a cash shop game that gets it right for a WoW-oriented western audience. The business model rescued a ho hum, fading game. And Turbine didn't create much outrage.

Guild Wars also has a shop where you can buy extra storage space and skill and pet unlocks. Yet the game is still very playable without making any such purchases.

I'm with you. When I need a break from MMo's, or just don't have the energy to maintain actual conversation with everyone in game/Vent, I go play Force Unleashed or something on one of the consoles.

It never feels the same. I'll play and have fun for a while, then realize I miss people and I go log into WoW or TF2 and have fun with friends. While I love the games, it's the friends in the environment that keep me online!

That's pretty much my take on them as well. I've been playing Civ IV, and managing to stick with it because it feels multi-playerish, even if the other players are AIs.

Other games, particularly CRPGs, I can't handle any more - whatever about interaction with other people, not having an economy there to play with drives me mad. I got through a couple of hours of Braid, and have been really meaning to get back to it, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen.

Good post. I am usually the type to discuss my issues with games, especially on my blog.

But you give me hope.

For example, when I boot up Guild Wars and hear the music (either the ambient bell tones of Factions, the flaring Violins in Prophecies, or the tribal drums in Nightfall).

When I see a fatality in Age of Conan...blood and guts flying everywhere.

Having gorgeous visuals in newer RPGs thanks to my new rig.

Yea, there is something at least that can make us happy once in a while...us grumpy MMO players...lol

I wish I could get into EVE. I've tried the 14 day trial twice and just could nit get into it, butni hear soooo many loving things about the game.

@BearRepairSr I always see bearrepearjr on whenever I log into my LTB character.

WAR: I gained several levels and renown ranks for my tier 4 Shaman, whom I like more than my Zealot main. I also started a baby Engineer.

GW: I've been fooling around Factions, creating and deleting characters, trying to find a good fit. So far Warrior/Assassin has been my favorite. I plan to revisit and continue my Dervish's progress in Nightfall this week.

I've thought about giving WoW another (maybe 52nd this time) try out of peer pressure and being separated from the LTB guild for so long. But the game's become so elaborate, and is such a steep climb, and frankly, is so boring, I'm not sure if I'm going to bother.

I've been in Warhammer for the last 3-weeks or so, and it's been a mostly positive experience for the most part. A few of the old aggravations are there. It's much better balanced than it used to be - no more "I Win" buttons for Bright Wiz and Sorc. So that's good.
