The outrage didn&amp;#39;t crescendo until it was revealed that a patch was coming to make it virtually impossible to play effectively without buying some very expensive things.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And the producers did not promise to change the prices.  They said they&amp;#39;d be looking into the pricing.  That&amp;#39;s an important distinction.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think lots of the outrage happened because a large portion of the audience for Allods comes from westerners who are accustomed to WoW&amp;#39;s business model.  Other cash shop games that do not appeal to WoW players charge similarly high prices.  But they haven&amp;#39;t been exposed to similar outrage because their audiences are accustomed to the cash shop business model.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;DDO is a great example of a cash shop game that gets it right for a WoW-oriented western audience.  The business model rescued a ho hum, fading game.  And Turbine didn&amp;#39;t create much outrage.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Guild Wars also has a shop where you can buy extra storage space and skill and pet unlocks.
