Endless Hours Of Gaming Just Not As Fun Anymore

I was so excited about having a week off of work without going anywhere, with the exception of a two day jaunt down to Northern Kentucky for Thanksgiving festivities. I was psyched because I planned on sitting in front of my computer for hours on end sipping coffee and grinding the levels away on my hunter in Lord of the Rings Online, waiting till 2 or 3 in the afternoon to shower… it was an awesome plan!

Instead, I spent most of my time cleaning or shopping or various other tasks around the condo that needed some attention. Sadly, endless hours of gaming just wasn't as exciting as I had hopped. Not that I didn't get plenty of game time in, mind you (I took my Hunter from 29-34 in that time frame), it's just that I didn't get as much as I had planned for. What's more, the two days that I was able to just sit and play for several hours weren't nearly as satisfying as I had thought they would be.

It's not the game. LOTRO is hitting various pleasure zones in my mind every time I log in and the icon on my desktop makes me smile still. No, it wasn't LOTRO that was not as enjoyable. I think instead just the concept of sitting idle in front of my computer playing video games all day was what was bothering me. And that sucks!

It wasn't too many years ago where I would give anything to spend 8 hours playing whatever game I was hooked to at the time. Things are different now though. The idea still sounds good, but the execution of it makes me feel like a giant pile of poo.

Is this what they call "getting older?"

I know what you mean and have experienced the same. Like you I have attributed it to age (over 30 now!) and I have managed to curb my addictive personality! Only slightly, mind...

I feel this way. I get antsy if I spend more than an hour at a time raiding or running a dungeon. I stay there because I've committed myself, but I can't help but feel bad because I think there are other things I could be doing that are "more productive."

Yeah, it's getting older, unfortunately. I wrote about this earlier this year, over the summer, and people were telling me the same thing: it's me, not the games, that are changing. Whether that's good or bad, I dunno.

I am in the same boat as well. I used to want nothing more than to sit and play video games. Now, not so much.

On the bright side, now I have this thing I think they call "free time." I plan on using this free time to finish reading all of the nWoD books I bought and maybe join a PbP or something so I can still get some type of gaming in.

For me it depends on the game, and maybe even the genre(?) I have two "go-to" games on my PC and a few harlots here and there to give me something new and exciting.

My "stand-bys" are LOTRO and EVE Online, with my Harlots being whatever is new and shiney.

Lately I've been able to spend many hours in EVE without getting bored, however if I just login to LOTRO, I see the grind before me and "meh..." - and go do something else, like clean the apt or do laundry, or go grocery shopping :P

Anyways, you're not alone - maybe pick up some other "go to" games or take a detour through some other game so that your "old stand-bys" seem fresh once you do decide to go back. Just a thought...
