Chaotic Battle

So one of the ways you can make fights more then just tank and spank is to put some unpredictability in the mix. Whether it's that boss who randomly clears aggro, things with a chance to happen, or even rearranging the battlefield. And lets face it, a little bit of chaos can make things fun.

On the other hand, a bit of chaos introduced in the wrong place at the wrong time can be disastrous. The other day for instance, I was playing my gun toting cheerleader and fired off her big attack. The attack goes something along the lines of "hold down the trigger and spray." Anyway, said attack has a stupid long cone and she fired it right as a guy was getting hit with a knockback effect. She was about .5 seconds away from trouble as the knockback carried the target from in front of the stragglers to in front of another spawn, which was in range of the giant cone. Miraculously the cone fired off in the middle of that trip, while it missed the rest of the stragglers (and was thus kind of wasted on just one target,) it also missed the other spawn, thus avoiding poor Britt announcing her position and intent to a new pack of enemies via hot lead.

Potential disasters aside, I think one of the things I like about combat in the city is it feels more chaotic then in other games I've played. There's a lot more going on at once typically. Additionally the field of battle changes a lot more, whether from the rather prevalent knockback effects (most melee types are immune, some ranged types too,) or form the more exotic powers. My gravity controller for instance is fond of finding a second spawn and teleporting it en masse into the middle of the current fight. It's not quite as dangerous as it sounds, the teleported victims are left stunned momentarily so it's not like I doubled incoming damage by doing that. There is even the storm summoning set which I've heard best described as "controlled chaos." Of course, that's in the hands of a good storm user. In the hands of a bad storm user it's more likely to be known as "that thing making the team miserable." Not everyone wants to deal with chaos, but in my book, as long as it's not to the point where there can be no control, I say keep it coming!

PS:
Sorry I haven't been able to post as much lately. Free time has taken a nose dive, hopefully I'll adjust and be back to twice a weekend soon.
