Valentine's Puzzle Solved?

Posted on Thursday, January 29, 2009

We've spent a lot of time this week pouring over the cards sent out by Mythic to bloggers in a genious move to strike up conversation about their game and raise excitement for their big announcement today. If there is one thing this team does hands down better than any other MMO out there, it's get involved with their community and keep the hype going. There's been several good guesses as to what the mystery letters on the back of the cards mean (including my crappy first guess), but I think the community has figure it out.

Based on what we've seen so far, the best guess around the net for the number/letter puzzle from the Mythic Valentine's Day Cards is a little bit less than exciting, but still nice to figure it out. Here's what we had yesterday afternoon:

_ T N I _ T N _ V L R A _

Tome of Knowledge got their letter yesterday as well: the 8th letter in the series is another L. So now we're looking at:

_ T N I _ T N L V L R A _

However, after taking a look at the L's on the back of the letters and comparing them to the handwriting on the front, it's much more likely that these are actually E's and not L's. Given that revelation, we're now left with:

_ T N I _ T N E V E R A _

Why we haven't seen the other three letters is not really clear. It could be that certain bloggers have not checked their mail, or that the mail system wasn't working quite right (which would be perfectly ironic for WAR), or maybe they were intentionally not sent out. Even without those last few letters, a smattering of people are reporting their suggestion for what this puzzle means, and I have to agree with them. First, turn the series backward:

_ A R E V E N T _ N T _

If we are to assume from the poems on the from of the cards that these were meant to hints and a Live Event within WAR (which we all pretty much agree upon), then it's easy to fill in the blanks as follows:

W A R E V E N T H I N T S

Or, WAR Event Hints. Which is soooo Zen for the answer to this puzzle. Not the most exciting, but good none-the-less.

(Sorry for not linking to the various blogs out there who came up with this idea. I wasn't able to write this up before I left for work, and everything good is blocked from here. However, if you email me with the link I'll update the post)
